Frequently Asked Questions
Our company needs a website. What's involved?
When a website is being developed, these three things
happen simultaneously:
- Design - The look and feel of the site is determined and the
html pages are created.
- Content - The text is written and pre-existing
images (logos, photos) are gathered.
- Hosting - The domain name is registered and an
account is set up with a hosting company. The choice is
yours, but based upon seven years of experience with various
hosting companies, we recommend
iPowerWeb Hosting's Business Plan for $94.50 per year.
How is the look of the site determined?
Good Works Web Design and the client sit down and
talk about the graphic look for the site. For
example, think of it as decorating the lobby of your
building. A law firm's lobby will look dignified and
trustworthy. A day care center's lobby looks fun,
playful and safe. If the client already has a
graphic identity (which is often found in their
printed materials), the designer will use that as a
starting point. If the client does not have a
graphic identity, Good Works does provide custom
graphic design, including a corporate logo.
Who writes the text and creates the images for our website?
Writing the text and creating the images is a
joint effort between the client and Good Works. The
client has the choice of writing their original
text, pulling it from existing printed materials or
having Good Works provide professionally written web
content. Many companies already have the images
they need or access to a digital camera so they can
provide their own pictures. If the client prefers, digital photography and custom-designed
graphics are services provided by Good Works Web
Design.
Where do I get a website address?
There are several companies on the Web that
handle domain name registration.
What is a host and how do I get one?
A host is a company that maintains servers that
hold your website's files. Since files are uploaded
via the Web, it is not necessary for your host to be
a local company.
Do you guarantee a listing in
search engines?
After your site is submitted to the search
engines, it may take four to 12 weeks to get listed.
That is, of course, assuming that the search engines
decide to list you. This is completely their
decision. All Good Works can do is submit the URL.
Please be aware that Good Works Web Design does not
guarantee search engine placement and/or ranking to
any search engine. If you want more information
